Puh, manchmal dauert es lang, bis ich einen meiner ausführlichen Reiseblogposts veröffentliche aber dafür wird es dann umso besser ;-). In den folgenden Zeilen und vielen Bildern seht ihr die Faszination einer traumhaften Insel, die mich auch heute, einige Monate nach meiner Reise nicht losgelassen hat.
Sansibar ist ein halbautonomer Staat mit 2 Hauptinseln vor der Küste von Tansania in Ostafrika.
Auf Sansibar leben rund 1,2 Millionen Menschen, die hauptsächlich Swahili, Englisch & Arabisch sprechen. Die Bevölkerung Sansibars besteht fast vollständig aus Muslimen.
Der Tourismus hat sich in den letzten Jahren enorm entwickelt und ist ein wichtiger Wirtschaftszweig der Inseln. Die Tierwelt des Sansibar-Archipels zeichnet sich durch eine große Artenvielfalt aus und die Strände haben weltweite Bekanntheit erlangt.

You know, sometimes it takes a long time to publish one of my detailed travel blog posts but it worth waiting ;-). In the following lines and many pictures you can see the fascination of a fantastic island that still has my heart, even a few months after my trip.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous state with 2 main islands off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa.
Around 1.2 million people live on Zanzibar, who mainly speak Swahili, English & Arabic. The population of Zansibar consists almost completely of Muslims.
Tourism has developed strongly in recent years and is an important branch of the islands. The wildlife of the Zanzibar archipelago is characterized by a large biodiversity and the beaches have gained worldwide fame.
HOW TO GET THERE

Wer meine Reisen verfolgt, der weiss wie gern und viel ich mit KLM fliege. Als Vielflieger schätze ich an KLM 3 Dinge besonders: Zuverlässigkeit, Freundlichkeit & Komfort.
Die Zuverlässigkeit setzt einfach Massstäbe, als ich im letzten Winter flog war die Covid Situation in Deutschland und der Schweiz wirklich wieder extrem angespannt. Trotz der sich ständig ändernden Regeln, war auf KLM verlass. Die Maschinen flogen, wir waren immer top informiert. Besonders die Seite Traveldoc von KLM ist Gold wert. Auch wenn inzwischen Covid zum Glück nicht mehr ganz so ein grosses Thema ist, benutze ich die Seite vor jedem Flug und weiss immer, welche Tests, Visa etc. ich benötige.
Die Freundlichkeit bei KLM ist einfach genial. Egal ob in der Lounge, beim Boarding, oder der Service an Board. Egal was ihr benötigt, die Crew am Boden und in der Luft hilft Euch immer mit einem Lächeln weiter.
Der Komfort, vor allem in der Business Class ist natürlich auf allerhöchstem Level. Full-flat seats, in den man schläft wie ein kleines Baby und ein Entertainment-System auf dem neuesten Stand der Technik machen den Flug zum Erlebnis und irgendwie kommt einem selbst ein fast 10 stündiger Flug noch fast zu kurz vor.
Wer nach Sansibar fliegen möchte, der sollte sich unbedingt die Angebote auf KLM ansehen. Ich habe die 2 Flüge in der super komfortablen Business Class verbracht, fliege aber auch oft Economy oder Premium und fand dort ebenfalls alle Flüge sehr angenehm.

If you follow my trips, you know how often I fly with KLM. As a frequent flyer, I particularly appreciate 3 things: Reliability, friendliness & comfort.
The reliability simply sets standards, especially when I flew last winter during the tense Covid Situation. Despite the constantly changing rules, it was able to rely on KLM. The machines flew & we were always well informed. The Traveldoc website from KLM is particularly amazing. Even if Covid is now not quite such a big topic anymore, I use the page before every flight and always know which tests, visas etc. I need.
The friendliness at KLM is simply awesome. Whether in the lounge, boarding, or up in the air. No matter what you need, the crew on the ground and in the air always helps you with a smile.
The comfort, especially in business class, is of course at the very highest level. Full-Flat Seats, in which you sleep like a small baby and a state of the art entertainment system, make the flight an experience and somehow you almost feel like an almost 10 hour flight is a bit too short ;).
If you want to fly to Zanzibar, you should definitely check out the offers of KLM. I spent the 2 flights in the super comfortable business class, but I also often fly economy or premium and also found those flights very pleasant.
WHERE TO STAY

Das The Residence auf Sansibar war mein Zuhause für den gesamten Aufenthalt. Eingebettet zwischen 32 Hektar tropischer Gärten, gesäumt von einem unberührten, kilometerlangen Strand, lässt The Residence Zanzibar kaum einen Wunsch offen was Luxus und Platz angeht.
Mein ganz persönliches Highlight: Auf dem Areal leben sehr viele Affen. Normalerweise können diese Tiere ganz schön aggressiv sein, aber die auf Sansibar oder lebenden Affen sind hier in keiner Hinsicht mit den mir bekannten Affenarten vergleichbar. Die vergleichsweise kleinen Tiere sind ganz vorsichtig, sanftmütig und freuen sich über jede Interaktion und natürlich das ein oder andere Stückchen Obst. Übrigens: Unter den Affen befinden sich auch einige der inzwischen nur noch auf Sansibar vorkommenden Colobus-Affen. Genauer Hinschauen lohnt sich also, denn die Tiere sind vom Aussterben bedroht, äußerst scheu und sie zwischen den Ästen zu entdecken ist ein echter Glücksmoment. Nachts schauen dann auch gern mal kleine Galagos vorbei, und starren Euch mit Ihren riesigen Augen erwartungsvoll an. Also immer genügend Obst vom Frühstücksbuffet mitnehmen ;). Irgendwie sind Tiere in Hotels für mich zu einem must geworden. Wenn ich keine Katze, Hund oder eben Affen treffe bin ich als Tierfreund einfach happy. Hier war ich umso mehr begeistert.
Das Hotel verfügt über 6 verschiedenen Zimmer-Kategorien und wir hatten uns für eine Beach Villa mit privatem Pool entschieden. Besonders für Familien oder Honey Mooners kann ich diese Kategorie sehr empfehlen.
Die Gastfreundschaft der Menschen auf Sansibar ist bekannt und hat mich im The Residence sehr überzeugt. Ich habe mich viel mit dem Personal unterhalten, um etwas über die Menschen und das Land zu erfahren und war wirklich von der offenen Art und den spannenden Unterhaltungen begeistert.
Auch kulinarisch konnte das The Residence meine Erwartungen sogar noch übertreffen. Ob arabisch, mediterran oder internationale Küche, hier findet man einfach alles was das Herz begehrt.
Der Spa Bereich ist sehr schön gemacht und ich habe mir sogar mal den Luxus einer Massage gegönnt – muss auch mal sein :D. Der riesige Hotelpool ist komplett verglast und eignet sich super für fantastische & unvergessliche Urlaubsfotos. Natürlich gibt es auch einen gut ausgestatteten Gym, sodass man das viele gute Essen auch gleich vor Ort wieder abtrainieren kann ;). All in all war ich begeistert und würde jederzeit wieder das Hotel buchen.

The Residence in Zanzibar was my home for the entire stay. Embedded between 32 hectares of tropical gardens, lined with an untouched, kilometer -long beach, The Residence Zanzibar hardly leaves a wish unfulfilled regarding luxury and space.
My very personal highlight: A lot of monkeys live on the area. Usually these animals can be quite aggressive, but the monkeys on Zanzibar are not comparable to the species of monkeys I know. The comparatively small animals are very careful, meek and are happy about every interaction and of course one or two pieces of fruit. By the way: Among the monkeys there are also some of the rare Colobus monkeys, which are now only to be found on Zanzibar. It is worth taking a closer look, because the animals are threatened with extinction, extremely shy and discovering them between the branches is a real moment of happiness. At night it might also happen that the small Galagos pass by and stare at your huge eyes expecting some treats. So always take enough fruit from the breakfast buffet ;). Somehow animals in hotels have became a must for me. When I don’t see a cat, dog or any other animal, I’m just not as happy as usual. I was all the more enthusiastic here.
The hotel has 6 different room categories and we chose a beach villa with a private pool. I can highly recommend this category for families or Honey Mooners.
The hospitality of the people in Zanzibar is well known and was absolutely amazing in The Residence. I talked a lot to the staff to learn something about the people and the country and was really enthusiastic about the open nature and the exciting conversations.
The residence was also able to exceed my expectations in culinary delights. Whether Arabic, Mediterranean or international cuisine, you can find everything your heart desires here.
The spa area is made very nicely and I even treated myself with the luxury of a massage. The huge hotel pool is completely glazed and is great for fantastic & unforgettable vacation photos. Of course there is also a well -equipped gym, so that you can also train away the good food directly ;). All in all I was thrilled and would book the hotel again at any time.

Vorab, keine Angst vor der Organisation der Aktivitäten in Sansibar. The Residence hat für uns alle Trips organisiert und kümmert sich wirklich um alles für Euch. Ihr müsst nur noch dabei sein und Spass haben ;).

THE ROCK & PAJE

Der Fotohotspot auf Sansibar! Ein Restaurant mitten im Meer, nun das hängt etwas von den Gezeiten ab aber es sieht einfach fantastisch aus. Der weisse Strand das Kristallklare Wasser und dann dieses Häuschen auf dem Felsen mitten im Meer. Einen schöneren Fotospot gibt es kaum. Was meint ihr? Für mich ein must see! Der Paje Stand ist ebenfalls ein echtes must see und bietet mit den typisch afrikanischen Holzbooten das ultimative Sansibar-feeling.

The photo hotspot on Zanzibar! A restaurant in the middle of the sea, well that depends a bit on the tides but it just looks amazing. The white beach, the crystal clear water and then this little house on the rock in the middle of the sea. There is hardly a more beautiful photo spot. A must-see for me! The Paje Beach is also a real must see and offers the ultimate Zanzibar feeling with the typical African wooden boats.

Seit 1988 wird See Gras an den Stränden von Sansibar angebaut und von der Bevölkerung geerntet. Der Anbau des Grases ist ein wesentlicher Wirtschaftszweig der Inseln und ein international sehr gefragtes Produkt. Es ist spannend zu sehen, wie das Gras geerntet wird und lässt einen den manchmal auch sehr harten und einfachen Alltag der Bevölkerung besser verstehen.

The cultivation of the grass is an essential industry of the islands and a product that is in great demand internationally. It is exciting to see how the grass is harvested and gives you a better understanding of the sometimes very hard and simple everyday life of the population.

Den Namen Stone Town ‚die Steinerne Stadt’ erhielt Sansibars Hauptstadt wegen ihrer prachtvollen Bauten aus Korallenstein. Sansibar war einst eines der wichtigsten Handelszentren im Indischen Ozean und die Stadt zu Ihrer Zeit vergleichsweise fortschrittlich. Prachtvollen Paläste, kunstvoll verzierten Türen imposante Bauwerke längst vergangene Kulturen. Auf Sansibar begeben sich architektonische Zeitalter und man erinnert sich wie viele Völker auf dieser kleinen Insel Ihre Spuren hinterlassen haben. Stone Town ist seit 2000 UNESCO Weltkulturerbe und auf jeden Fall ein Must See.

Zanzibar’s capital was given the name Stone Town, the Stone City, because of its magnificent buildings made of coral stone. Zanzibar was once one of the most important trading centers in the Indian Ocean and the city was comparatively advanced. Magnificent palaces, artistically decorated doors, imposing buildings from long-gone cultures – Architectural ages are to be seen in Zanzibar and one remembers how many peoples have left their mark on this small island. Stone Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 and is definitely a must see.
PRISON ISLAND

Die ehemalige Gefängnisinsel dient heute als Schildkröten Reservat und lockt eine Vielzahl von Touristen Jahr für Jahr an. Obwohl die Idee sicher einmal gut gemeint war, muss ich leider sagen, dass die Tiere dort unter sehr schlechten Bedingungen gehalten werden. Hier muss ich ganz klar sagen: Wer Tiere liebt sollte sich den Gang auf die Insel wirklich zweimal überlegen.

The former prison island now serves as a turtle sanctuary and attracts a large number of tourists year after year. Although the idea was certainly meant well, I have to say that the animals are kept under very bad conditions there. Here I have to say very clearly: If you love animals, you should really think twice about going to the island.
SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINES

Ein echtes Highlight! Es war immer mein Traum gewesen einmal mit wild lebenden Delphinen zu schwimmen und nun konnte ich endlich diesen Lebenstraum erfüllen. Und war es wirklich so gut wie alle sagen? Besser! Die Tiere sind unglaublich kommunikativ und ich hatte das Gefühl, dass nicht nur ich eine riesige Freude daran hatte. Wir sind zu diesem Zweck früh am Morgen (denn dann kommen die Tiere an die Küste, um zu frühstücken bevor es wieder in die Meerestiefe geht) mit dem Boot rausgefahren zu einer Familie von bestimmt 50 Delfinen. Brille auf und rein ins Wasser! Wenn einer dieser faszinierenden Säuger an dir vorbei schwimmt und dir mitten ins Auge sieht – das ist einfach ein unbeschreiblich schönes Gefühl. Unbedingt machen!

A real highlight! It had always been my dream to swim with wild dolphins and now I could finally fulfill this dream of life. And was it really as good as everyone says? Better! The animals are incredibly communicative and I had the feeling that I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it immensely. For this purpose we went out by boat early in the morning (because that’s when the animals come to the coast to have breakfast before heading back into the sea) to see a family of at least 50 dolphins. Goggles on and into the water! When one of these fascinating Dolphins swims past you and looks you straight in the eye – that’s just an indescribably beautiful feeling. Definitely do that!
SPICE FARM

Sansibar ist für seine besonderen Gewürze bekannt und so besuchten wir natürlich eine der vielen Gewürzfarmen. Von einem jungen Guide (der sich selbst perfektes russisch beigebracht hat!) wurden wir durch das weitläufige Areal geführt und haben viel wissenswertes über die Gewürze der Insel erfahren. Ich würde diesen Ausflug eher Leuten empfehlen, die sich für Gewürze und Pflanzen besonders interessieren.

Zanzibar is known for its special spices and so of course we visited one of the many spice farms. We were led through the extensive area by a young guide (who taught himself perfect Russian!) and learned a lot about the spices of the island. I would recommend this excursion more to people who are particularly interested in spices and plants.

Ihr merkt, auf Sansibar gibt es viel zu entdecken und die Menschen sind offen und sehr freundlich. Good to know: Viele Menschen dort leben unterhalb der Armutsgrenze und sind auf den Tourismus angewiesen. Gebt Trinkgeld und habt im Hinterkopf, dass Ihr es verdammt gut habt im Leben und Euer Glück sehr leicht teilen könnt indem ihr die vielfältigen Angebote für Touristen vor Ort wahrnehmt.
So, jetzt geniesst die Bilder aus dem Paradies und ich hoffe ich habe es geschafft Sansibar auf Eure Bucketlist zu bringen. Falls ja habt ihr jetzt einige Infos, um den Traumurlaub unvergesslich zu machen. Ich war insgesamt 10 Tage dort und würde sagen, man muss mindestens 7 Tage einplanen, um die Insel wirklich in all Ihrer Schönheit zu erleben.

As you can see, there is a lot to discover in Zanzibar and the people are open and very friendly. Good to know: Many people there live below the poverty line and are dependent on tourism. Give a tip and keep in mind that you have it damn good in life and can easily share your happiness by experiencing of the diverse offers for tourists on site.
So now enjoy the pictures from paradise and I hope I managed to put Zanzibar on your bucket list. If so, you now have some information to make your dream vacation unforgettable. I was there for a total of 10 days and would say you have to plan at least 7 days to really experience the island in all its beauty.

This ish超赞 (absolutely awesome)! The writer clearly had an epic time, and their enthusiasm for the monkeys and dolphins is adorable, if a tiny bit terrifying for the poor animals ;). While I appreciate the love for KLM and The Residence, I must admit, after reading about the Colobus monkeys and Galagos, I might just stick to enjoying the sea views and incredible photos from the glazed pool myself. And yes, the Spice Farm visit sounds promising, just as long as they dont expect me to try the perfekt perfektes russisch guide! All in all, a very happy reader, just slightly more cautious about getting too close to the wildlife than our author. 😉
